As a BzzAgent, I was sent some new products to sample and review, including the Batiste Dry Shampoo, Batiste Smoothing Conditioning Mist and Batiste XXL Volumising Plumping Powder.
I have used dry shampoo in the past, but I’ve never been completely sure about it. As for the conditioning mist and plumping powder, I can’t ever recall seeing these products before, so I was particularly keen to try the plumping powder.
Batiste Strength & Shine Dry Shampoo
My initial thought of the Batiste Strength & Shine Dry Shampoo was that it smelled very nice. However, I’m not particularly keen on dry shampoo in general, for a few reasons:
- It makes my hair look grey and dull. I know that for some people this is exactly what they want from dry shampoo, but it’s not for me!
- I feel as though I’m being suffocated in a cloud of powder, with my lungs and everything else in the room ending up coated in the stuff.
- For me, it would be easier to wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner than to dry it after a shower, only to then apply dry shampoo. I don’t think applying dry shampoo to wet hair would work out very well!
So, while I can see why dry shampoo is useful for some people, it just isn’t a product I personally enjoy using.
Batiste Smoothing Conditioning Mist
My hair had been looking very dry and flyaway. Usually, I would tie my hair back into a ponytail or, if I wasn’t being lazy, use a leave-in conditioner or hot oil treatment. But, to be honest, most of the time I either forget or simply haven’t got the time!
Before trying the Batiste Smoothing Conditioning Mist, if I wanted to get rid of flyaways, I would use a hair serum. The problem is that I tend to get a bit trigger-happy with the pump and end up using far too much, which then makes my hair look greasy.
My first thought when I saw the Batiste Smoothing Conditioning Mist was, “Can a conditioning mist really put some condition back into my hair and get rid of my flyaways?”
Well… as you can see from the before and after photos below, I personally would say yes!
The spray left my hair feeling soft, silky and smooth, without giving it that greasy feeling or appearance that I sometimes get when I use too much hair serum.
Batiste XXL Volumising Plumping Powder
Before using the Batiste XXL Volumising Plumping Powder, if I wanted volume in my hair, I would backcomb it and spray a fair amount of hairspray into it.
The problem was that brushing all that backcombed hair out afterwards could be incredibly uncomfortable. Even washing my hair before combing it out didn’t seem to make much difference!
So, using the Batiste XXL Volumising Plumping Powder made creating volume much easier and less time-consuming.
When I received the powder and read how it worked, I was very sceptical. So, after washing, blow-drying and straightening my hair, I applied the plumping powder using four simple steps:
- Separate the sections of hair where I wanted to add volume.
- Sprinkle in a very small amount of powder.
- Lightly rub the powder into the hair.
- Style!
Once the powder was in my hair, the texture felt a little odd to touch. It almost felt as though it might dry my hair out. However, it did the job of adding volume, and the volume lasted all day.
When it came to combing the product out, it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as combing out backcombed hair, although I could still feel some of the product residue in my hair.
If you were to wash your hair afterwards, the product would simply wash away rather than leaving you with that pulling feeling when trying to comb out heavily backcombed hair.
Conclusion

Batiste XXL Volumising Plumping Powder
I would highly recommend this product and would definitely buy it again. It made creating volume in my hair much easier than backcombing and hairspray, and the volume lasted throughout the day.
